Innovative Technologies in MAHLE On-Board Chargers

To make its next generation of on-board chargers (OBCs) more compact, more efficient, and less costly while reducing average charging times, MAHLE uses new generation components based on Silicon Carbide (SiC) technology from STMicroelectronics. SiC MOSFETs, SiC based integrated molded power modules, SiC diodes, as well as other supplementary power products by STMicroelectronics complement the high-quality components required for charging the batteries of electric vehicles.

In an era of unstable global supply chains, safeguarding reliable supplies of new, innovative high-performance products for our customers is one of our top priorities. Our collaboration with STMicroelectronics allows reliable planning and provides further innovation for MAHLE to develop new products and solutions to address the market.

OBCs are an essential part of the ecosystem of electric vehicles (EVs) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) which facilitate the charging process. MAHLE is one of the world’s leading suppliers of on-board chargers, high-quality components required for charging the batteries of electric vehicles. Whether charging the battery by converting alternating current (AC) into direct current (DC), or even allowing the vehicle to supply power back into the grid, the OBC always ensures efficient and safe charging. MAHLE currently offers scalable on-board chargers with power ratings from 3.6 kW to 22 kW. The on-board charger is among MAHLE’s focus products for electrification as part of its group strategy and successful series production has been in progress for several generations.
